“I could sit and watch my life go by
Or I could take a tiny chance
‘Cause some day I’ll be stuffed in some museum
Scaring little kids
With the inscription carpe diem
Something I never did.”
Jens Lekman - Rocky Dennis’ Farewell Song
I’ve been listening to Jens Lekman virtually constantly the last 2 days after picking up his album after someone I follow on tumblr posted one of the tracks (thanks mythologisingme!). It’s such an amazing album in so many ways. All kinds of charming, seriously recommend checking it out.
“The ocean wants a sailor, a gun wants a hand.” Tom Waits - Face To the Highway.
I can’t wait to pick up the new Tom Waits album up tomorrow when I get the chance. I’ve spent all week looking through his albums in shops to try and find “Bad as Me” only to find out it’s off his new album that hadn’t come out. Felt a bit of an idiot but it’s out now so no more getting frustrated at shops apparent lack of it. My father has been listening to him for a long time and got me listening to Mule back when it came out. Being introduced to music by the parentals is always a pretty special moment.
I’ve got a genuine excuse to use a protactor today and this pleases me immensely. It’s like one of those moments when you get to use school level maths for some everyday task and get to be all “hell yeah!”.
The only down side to posting about this is that I keep reading protractor over and over thinking it’s spelt wrong then all of a sudden all I can’t stop reading it as pro-tractor. I’m not sure if there’s amateur tractors but I bet a lot of farmers wish they had pro ones.
There was a space in my bed that I filled up with books and dusty ornaments.
Without the light I lay down next to other people’s lines and hoped that I was right.
Oh collarbone. You put punctuation marks on all my clothes, deep in my heart and in my hope.
” —Tellison - CollarboneHas been pretty damn amazing. Six hours of pedalling round my home county is always a good start. Then this afternoon I found someone to fix my leather Polaroid camera case and also possible make cycle bags for me. I got to investigate an awesome new antique shop to which I’ll be going back to for sure. Followed this up with an evening down the pub with bro’s catching up and talking.
Tomorrow is going to be filled with London and me singing my lungs out to The Get Up Kids at their show at the Underworld in the evening. My week off from work is shaping up to be ace! Still have wedding receptions, more cycling and hangouts to look forward to.
